Both are even since they have symmetry across the y axis. Also f(x)=f(-x) is applicable to both of these equations which means they are even. For instance if I plug in x=2 into a) I get

Now let x=-2
Which proves f(x)=f(-x) and shows it is an even equation. The same applies to the 2nd one also.
