Question 706436: I need to factorize this
8x³-4x-1

You can solve this using synthetic division.
The answer is:
(4x^2-2x-1)(2x+1)
If you don't know how to use the synthetic division method, you may just use the "trial & error" method.
First, you look at the first & last terms: 8x^3 & 1.
The possible factors are:
(2x-1)(4x^2+ A +1) or
(2x+1)(4x^2+ A -1) or
(x+1)(8x^2+ A -1) or
(x-1)(8x^2+ A +1) or
(8x-1)(x^2+ A +1) or
(8x+1)(x^2+ A -1)
And hopefully, one of them is the answer. Of course, you still have to get the value of A(the middle term) to get the final answer.
