f(x) = x - 2

f(3x) = 3x - 2

f(x) = x - 2

f(x+1) = x+1 - 2

f(x+1) = x - 1

-------------------------------------------------------

f(3x) = f(x+1)

3x - 2 = x - 1

3x = x-1+2

3x-x = -1+2

2x = -1+2

2x = 1

x = 1/2

So the answer is x = 1/2
