The absolute value is the greater of a number and its opposite? This results in the absolute value being the positive number of the two (unless the number is zero and the absolute value will be zero).
Looking at the numbers in the set the absolute values will be 4, 1 (from the -1), 12, 20 (from the -20), 19 and 0.
The greatest of these is the 20 which comes from the -20 in the original set.
