State the degree of the following polynomial:
8x^3+6x^2y+4xy^3-2y^4
The degree of a polynomial is the degree of it's highest degreed term.
8x^3 <--degree 2
6x^2y <--degree 2+1=3
4xy^3 <--degree 1+3=4
2y^4 <--degree 4
The two highest degreed terms have a degree of 4, so the degree of the polynomial is
