Question 549208: Can you help me? I need to understand how to state the domain, {(x,y) | y= 3x-2/x+4}
Answer by nyc_function(2741) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The domain for the rational function is the value we can allow x to be in the denominator that will not lead to division by zero, which does not exist.
To find this out, we set the denominator to zero and solve for x.
x + 4 = 0
x = -4
The domain for this function is ALL REAL NUMBERS except x cannot equal -4.
