f(x)= -2x^2 + 4x + 5
:
y = -2x^2 + 4x + 5
(a) find the vertex
Use the axis of symmetry to find the vertex, the formula for that x = -b/(2a)
x =
x = 1
Find y when x=1
y = -2(1^2) + 4(1) + 5
y = 7
the vertex: 1,7
:
(b) find the leading co-efficient
That's the coefficient of x^2 which is -2
:
(c) what is the shape of the graph?
A parabola, opening downward, the vertex is the maximum
:
(d) what is the axis of symmetry? See a
