If you meant the first one you should have typed

       7 - (1/2)x = 3

If you meant the second one you should have typed

       7 - 1/(2x) = 3

Then multiply every term on both sides by LCD = 2

              2

            14 - x = 6

Add -14 to both sides

            14 - x =  6
