To evaluate this function for f(-4), simply replace every occurence x in the equation with -4, and do the arithmetic.
f(-4) = (-4)^2 + 2(-4) - 7
f(-4) = 16 - 8 - 7
f(-4) = 16 - 15
f(-4) = 1
