How would you know if there is a slant asymptote?
Answer by robertb(5830) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If the polynomial at the numerator of the rational function is 1 degree greater than the degree of the numerator polynomial (after all valid cancellations, i.e., after determining all vertical asymptotes and "holes" of the graph.). If the degree of the top polynomial exceeds the degree of the bottom polynomial by at least 2, then the resulting aymptote is called curvilinear asymptote.
