Answer by longjonsilver(2297) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if roots are (4+i) and (4-i), then we can say:
x=(4+i) or x=(4-i)
so, x-(4+i)=0 or x-(4-i)=0
So, the factors are (x-(4+i))(x-(4-i))=0
hence (x-4-i)(x-4+i)=0
Now expand, to give
So, a possible equation is y=
jon.

Two roots 4+i & 4-i. (r1 & r2)
Their sum = 8 and their product is 4^2 + 1 = 17.
So, the equation is x^2 - 8x + 17 = 0 (ie x^2 - (r1+r2)x + r1 r2 =0
