Hi,
*Note: exploring possible roots as being factors of the constant 3.
(1,3,-1,-3) found that -3 worked.
-27 + 27 + 3 - 3

          x^2 - 1
        __________________________
x + 3 | x^3 + 3x^2 - x - 3

factoring would be
F(x) = (x+3)(x-1)(x+1)
F(x) = 0 at x= -3, or x = -1 or x = 1
