Find the derivative of
This requires the chain rule. To put it simply, the chain rule is the derivative of the inside times the derivative of the outside.
What is the outside?. It is
What is the inside?. It is
Derivative of outside is just
Derivative of inside:
Now, multiply them:
That's it.

The derivative of e^u is e^u*(inside derivative), which in this case is the derivative of the exponent itself.
y=4e^(x^3+1)
y'=4e^(x^3+1)*3x^2
y'=12x^2*e^(x^3+1)
While I do NOT have an explanation of calculus on my website, I do have a LOT of PRACTICE TESTS with DETAILED SOLUTIONS! To see this website, click on my tutor name "rapaljer" anywhere in algebra.com. Click on my website name that you will see there, and look on my Homepage for "Practice Tests with detailed solutions." Choose "Concepts of Calculus" and look in "Chapter 4" or Calculus I" in "Chapter 5" for practice tests on Derivatives of Logarithms and Exponentials. These are actual exams from my own classes. Practice tests are very important for ALL students, especially for students who have trouble with math!
