Question 323790: Whats the domain of 4x/x(x^2-64)
Answer by rapaljer(4671)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
DENOMINATORS must NEVER equal ZERO! The forbidden values here are the values in which the denominator

x=0, x=8, and x=-8

These are the forbidden values. All other values of x would be allowed. So the domain is all real values of x, except 0,8, and -8.

For additional explanation of this topic, please see my own website. You can click on my tutor name "rapaljer" anywhere in algebra.com. Then click on the link to my website that is given there.

From my Homepage, click on the link "MATH IN LIVING COLOR." Select either "Intermediate Algebra" or "College Algebra" depending upon your level of difficulty. In Intermediate Algebra, the lesson is in Chapter 5, and in College Algebra, the lesson is in Chapter 2. Look for the topic "Functions, Domain, and Range".

In addition to the written explanation, I have a video in each of these classes from both Intermediate and College Algebra from before I retired of me teaching the lessons on this topic. To see my videos, from my Homepage, look for the topic "Rapalje Videos in Living Color." These and other videos on important topics that students traditionally have trouble with, are all available FREE from this page of my website. You may need to download RealPlayer, but this too is a FREE download.
