So in a problem of f(a+1)= 2a^2+3a+1, using the function above, would the domain be 2? I am so lost here....

So ask yourself: Are there any values that you cannot plug in? If so, then simply exclude them from the domain. If not, then the domain is the largest set we can think of: the set of real numbers.
