Question 312096: A city bus is stopped 330 feet from the center of an intersection. It sits for three seconds. Starting after the third second, it travels at a rate of 30 feet per second for five seconds and then speeds up to 45 feet per second. 4 seconds later, it crosses the center of the intersection and continues at the same speed.
Given that the moment the bus crosses though the center of the intersection is Moment Zero, so that all times before that are negative and all times after it are positive, describe the piecewise function that describes the bus’s distance from the center of the intersection for any time T, measured in seconds, from twelve seconds before the bus crossed the intersection to twelve seconds after.
