Functions/250434 (2009-12-15 21:44:44): Is y a function of x? y= -2x-2
To determine if y is a function of x, we only need to see that for each x, there is one and only one y output.
In this case, we see that y is a linear equation, and for each x we input into the function, we can get one and only one single value of y.
This means that we do have a function.
There can be much discussion about functions and their importance, but for the most part, the 1 to 1 aspect of any single x value to any single y value is the the most important of the function.
I hope this helps. :)
