Question 22948: I have an extra credit project due soon and I was in need of some help. Here is the question.
1. Find the minimum and maximum values of the objective quantity.
5x + 2y is less than or = to -17
3x - 4y is greater than or = to -5
x + y is greater than or = to -7
x - y = -1
f(x,y) = 6x + 11y
~* That is the order that it is in on the sheet. I dont even know where to start at!! I think that this has something to do w/ functions though. Any help is really appreciated.
~* Thanks -- Sara ~*

Answer by stanbon!(97)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Because you have four lines to work with, graph all of
the four inequalities on a fairly large sheet of paper.
You should end up with an enclosed area with four vertices
where the various pairs of edges meet.
For example, one of these vertices is (0,-6) where y>=x-7
and y= x+1 meet.
After you find the coordinates of these four points, put
their respective (x,y) values into the equation f(x,y)
= 6x+11y.
The minimum and the maximum value is what you are asked to find.

Stan H.
