Question 220213: Write an equation,in terms of x and y, for the functions depicted by the table. The ordered pairs from the table would be the following (1,3)(2,9)(3,27)(4,81)(5,243). I tried finding slope but then when I plotted the ordered pairs on a graph I realized it wasn't linar but a curve. So I'm lost. I can see a relation in the output numbers (they seem to be multiplied by 3 (3x3=9x3=27x3=81x3=243) but I can't figure out how you plug the inputs of (1,2,3,4,5,)into a function equation to get to get those output numbers. Please help I'm stummped!!

Take note how for (2,9) the x coordinate is and the y coordinate is

Similarly, for (3,27) the x coordinate is and the y coordinate is

Starting to see a pattern? What's happening here is each y value is simply 3 to the power of the corresponding x value.

So if given , I would expect: which fits the given ordered pair (3,243).

So in general, any 'y' can be found through the equation
