Question 163101: Find the slope, if it exists, of the line containing the pair of points.
(1,7) and (9,-6)
The slope m = _______

It is easy to find a slope of a line if you have the coordinates of the two points.
You take the difference in the y values and divide by the difference in the x values. Some teachers call this the rise over the run.
So, here, we have:
7 - (-6) DIVIDED BY (1 - 9), which gives us:
13/-8, which is the same as -13/8, which exists.
The only time you have no slope is if the x values are the same, since you cannot have a zero in the denominator.
Good luck !
