Question 119016: what are the x and y intercept of the line 10x-9y-24=0
Answer by checkley71(8403) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
10X-9Y-24=0
-9Y=-10X+24
Y=-10X/-9+24/-9
Y=10X/9-8/3
SETTING X=0 WE FIND THE Y INTERCEPT THUS:
Y=10*0/9-8/3
Y=-8/3 THE Y INTERCEPT (0,-8/3)
NOW SETTING Y=0 WE FIND THE X INTERCEPT THUS
0=10X/9-8/3
10X/9=8/3 CROSS MULTIPLYING WE GET:
10X*3=8*9
30X=72
X=72/30
X=12/5 THE X INTERCEPT(12/5,0)
PROOF:
(graph 300x200 pixels, x from -6 to 5, y from -10 to 10, y = 10x/9 -8/3).
