Question 110633: This is an absolute value function word problem. I do not need help with the graphing part. Here is the problem:
A car's speedometer reads 60 miles per hour. The error (E) in this measurement is E=|a-60| where (a) is the actual speed. Graph the function. For what value(s) of (a) will (E) be 2.5 miles per hour?
Again, I already know how to graph it. I do not understand how to figure out the value(s) of (a) that make (E) equal 2.5 miles per hour. Can you help me, please? Thank you so much. :)

Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if the actual speed (a) is either 2.5 mph faster or slower than the speedometer's reading,
then the error (E) will be 2.5 mph
