Question 1070023: Help with matching? Thanks! Match the description of each transformation with the equation by drawing a line.
1. Moved up three and to the left four
2. Vertical stretch by 5 and right seven
3. Vertical compression by a factor of 1/3
4. Moved down 5 and to the right 3
5. Reflected over the x-axis and down 4
A. y = − x3 - 4
B. y = (x − 3) − 5
C. y = 7 x + 4 + 3
D. y = 3log x
E. y = 5(x - 7) 3

Answer by Edwin McCravy(20056)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You left off the parentheses in C.
It should have been y = 7(x+4)+3.
Also, you must indicate an exponent with ^ before the exponent

1. Moved up three and to the left four
2. Vertical stretch by 5 and right seven
3. Vertical compression by a factor of 1/3
4. Moved down 5 and to the right 3
5. Reflected over the x-axis and down 4
A. y = −x^3 - 4
B. y = (x − 3) − 5
C. y = 7(x + 4) + 3
D. y = 3log x
E. y = 5(x - 7)^3

1 matches C
2 matches E
3 matches none of them
4 matches B
5 matches A

Note: 3 does not match D because a multiplication by 3 is
a VERTICAL STRETCH of 3, not a COMPRESSION of 1/3. Did you copy
something wrong? To be a VERTICAL COMPRESSION, D would have had
to be , not .
