Domain and Range depend on which variable is for input and which variable is for output. Usually an equation in the two named variables x and y will use x as the input (independent) variable, and y as the output (dependent) variable.

Using that as the assumed convention,...
DOMAIN: What is the set of numbers for x which are acceptable?
RANGE: What is the set of numbers which y can be?

x will be ONLY a positive number or 0. One does not find any square root and it be negative.

-------------but remember, because this is not any longer the same as the initial given equation, we cannot accept any negative value for x. This means, that THE DOMAIN IS ALL REAL NUMBERS GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO 0.

The graph for will be like a parabola , but ONLY the rightmost branch beginning at x=0.

The now found domain will allow for y=0 as a minimum, and then all values greater than 0; so the RANGE will also be all real numbers greater than or equal to 0.
