Question 1022939: A window is to be formed by placing an isosceles right triangle on top of a rectangle as shown in the figure below. If the overall height of the window is 4 ft tall, express the area, A, of the window, in terms of its width w.

what I have so far:
Area of triangle: A=bh/2
Area of rectangle: A=lw
I know I have to add them but do I have to add the 4ft in there?

Area of the rectangle: xy
Area of the triangle: (y(4-x)/2 or we can write it: 1/2(y(4-x)
So the area of your total figure is:
xy+1/2(y(4-x)= area
