Question 988628: Nita and Asha have the same amount of money. Nita buys 4 pears at Rs8 each and 16 oranges. She has Rs3 left. Asha buys 23 oranges and has no money left. How much money did Asha and Nita have each at first?
Answer by macston(5194) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4 pears + 16 oranges +3Rs=23 oranges Subtract 16 oranges from each side.
4 pears + Rs3 = 7 oranges One pear=Rs8
4(Rs8)+Rs3=7 oranges
Rs32+Rs3=7 oranges
Rs35=7 oranges
Rs5=1 orange
Oranges cost Rs5 each, so Asha started with:
(23 oranges)(Rs5/orange)=Rs115
ANSWER: They each started with Rs115.
.
CHECK:
4 pears + 16 oranges + Rs3 = Rs115 1 pear=Rs8 and 1 orange=Rs5
4(Rs8) + 16(Rs5) + Rs3 = Rs115
Rs32 + Rs80 + Rs3 = Rs115
Rs115 = Rs115
