Think of it this way. A pound of sugar went from $1 to $1.25 per pound.
You go in to a store and ask how much sugar $1 will buy you.
$1 * 1lb/$1.25 = .8 lbs
.8lbs/1lb = .80 or 1-.80 = 20% less
1.25 and .80 are reciprocals.
