-------both a and x should be whole numbers, so maybe misunderstanding in my solution.

Another try:
Expecting 20*120=2400 rs. if he worked all twenty days, he only earned 1880 rs. This is 2400-1800=600 rs. that he lost. The first try is more sensible. Maybe he missed days and attended work for days.
