A contructor undertakes to build a wall 1000 meter long in 50 days. He employed 56 men but at the end of 27 days he finds that only 448 meter of wall is build. How many extra men must the contractor employ so that the wall is completed in time .
----
# of men is directly related to length of wall and
indirectly related to # of days.
----
m = k*L/D
-----------
Solve for "k" using "He employed 56 men but at the end of 27 days he finds that only 448 meter of wall is build"
56 = k*448/27
k = (27*56)/448
k = 3.375
------
Equation:
m = 3.375L/D
How many extra men must the contractor employ so that the wall is completed in time .
m = 3.375(1000-448)/(50-27)
m = 3.375*552/23
m = 81 (# of men he'll need to finish the job on time)
------------

A constructor undertakes to build a wall 1000 meter long in 50 days.
He employed 56 men but at the end of 27 days he finds that only 448 meter of wall is build.
Find how many man-days required per meter
= 3.375 man-days per meter
:
How many extra men must the contractor employ so that the wall is completed in time.
He has 1000 - 448 = 552 meters to build
That will require 552*3.375 = 1863 man-days
let m = number of additional men, he has 50 - 27 = 23 days to complete the wall
23(m + 56) = 1863
23m + 1288 = 1863
23m = 1863 - 1288
23m = 575
m = 575/23
m = 25 additional men required

 extra men are needed to complete remaining 552 m in 23 days.
