Question 919777: A mathematics teacher bought a $45 calculator for class use. Each student donated the same amount of money. If there had been 5 more students in te class, each would have had to pay 30 cents less. How many students were in the class?
Answer by ewatrrr(24785)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
45/n -45/(n+5) = .30
45(n+5) - 45n = .3n(n+5)
.3n^2 + 1.5n - 225 = 0
n^2 + 5n - 750 = 0 (Tossing out the negative solution for unit measure)
(n + 30)(n - 25) = 0
n = students were in the class
And...checking
45/25 = $1.80
45/30 = $1.50
