How far had Bret ridden when he reduced his speed to 10 miles per hour?
:
Let t = time rode at 10 mph
then
(5.5-t) = time rode 15 mph

Write a distance equation; dist = speed * time
15(5.5-t) + 10t = 80
82.5 - 15t + 10t = 80
-15t + 10t = 80 - 82.5
-5t = -2.5
t = -2.5/-5
t = +.5 hrs at 10 mph
find the distance at this speed
.5 * 10 = 5 mi
