standard form for a line is y = mx +b where m is the slope and b is the y intercept,
for the equation Y = 3x + 5, the slope is 3, we can see this from its graph
strictly speaking, the slope is a fraction, in our case it is 3/1 and this tells us that to find a point on the line from a given point on the same line we move 3 positive grid points from the given y coordinate and 1 positive grid point from the given x coordinate

y=mx+b
m=slope
slope m=3 or 3/1
