Question 816036: An airplane is making a round-trip flight from Diamond City to Longview. The plane travels to Diamond City at an average speed of 504 miles per hour and then returns to Longview at an average speed of 440 miles per hour. The plane's total travel time is 4.75 hours. What is the distance between the cities? (Please show the equation and how you go the answer. Thank you so much)
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let the distance be x miles
Time to + time return = 4.75
speed to = 504mph
speed return 440 mph
t=d/r
x/504+x/440 = 4.75
440x+504x = 4.75*504*440
944x= 4.75*504*440
x=1116 miles rounded off
