Question 264258: A man purchased a number of books at $7.00 and twice as many books at $12.50 each. The total cost came to $768. If x is the number of $7.00 books purchases, write down an equation and solve it to find the number of books purchased.(round your answer to the nearest book)
I am getting confused by the missing total amount of books. It is supposedly 3x to get the thirds, but there I can't get the answer.
Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
7x+12.50*2x=768
7x+25x=768
32x=768
x=768/32
x=24 $7 books were purchased.
2*24=48 $12.50 books were purchased.
Proof:
7*24+48*12.50=768
168+600=768
768=768
