Question 243840: A car rents for $40 per day plus 22cents per mile. You are on a daily budget of $84. What milage will allow you to stay within your budget?
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Cost is $40 + .22*m where m is the miles
You can pay a maximum of $84.
formula is:
84 = 40 + .22*m
subtract 40 from both sides of this equation to get:
44 = .22*m
divide both sides of this equation by .22 to get:
44/.22 = m
simplify to get:
m = 200
you can go at most 200 miles assuming there are no additional charges like taxes, gas, insurance, etc.
