since the seesaw is balanced, the moments (weight times "distance from fulcrum") are equal on both sides

let j="John's weight"

8 * 165 = (5 * j) + (4 * (j - 22))

1320 = 5j + 4j - 88

1408 = 9j

156 4/9 = j
