Question 193749: I am trying to figure the original amount & sales tax amount to come up with the total amount charged when I've lost receipts... Sales tax rate of 8.7% - So I think you do something like: X + (X*8.7%)= 25.31 (total amount)
So I remember that you want to get all the x's on one side, so divide both sides by 8.7% but that comes up way wrong... so I'm doing something wrong. Can someone please give me the right formula. Thank you. Jackie
Answer by user_dude2008(1862) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
X + (X*8.7%)= 25.31
X + (X*0.087)= 25.31
1.087*X= 25.31
X= 25.31/1.087
Ans: X=23.28 (not exact, but close enough)
