then, since total volume is 10 L:
10-w = amount of red paint
.
"cost of white paint" + "cost of red paint" = "cost of desired mixture"

3w + 4(10-w) = 3.40(10)
3w + 40 - 4w = 34

6 liters = w (amount of white paint)
