Question 1198993: Marge, the office manager, has a budget of $28,000 to furnish the conference room of a hotel with 24 seating arrangements, each consisting of a table with four chairs. The chairs being considered for purchase cost twenty dollars less than one-half the cost of the table. How much money will remain in the budget after the purchase of the tables and chairs?
Ok so I'm thinking this is a inequality problem. I know that the basic set up is the number of chairs.(cost) + the number the tables.(cost) must be less than or equal to $28,000. There is 24 seating arrangements and within that there is 4 chairs and 1 table per arrangement.

Know facts
*I need to subtract the total cost of the furniture from $28,000 to get the
remaining amount in of the budget,
*4(24)=96 total chairs
*1(24)=24 total tables
*120 total pieces of furniture needed
*Let x=cost of chairs
*Let 2x+20 =cost of tables
96(x)+24(2x+20)< or = to 28,000
96x+48x+480< or = to 28,000
144x=28,000-480 ( replaced less than or equal to with just the =(sign))
144x=27520
144x/144 = 2750/144
x=191.1111

When I plug x back into everything I get it cost $18,346.66 for the chairs + $9,653.3333 for the tables which = $ 27,999.444
Just not sure were I'm going wrong here !
Thanks in advanced you rock who ever you are
