Question 1195383: A guy wire is 20’ long and is attached to the top of power poles that are 8’ apart. If the lowest point of the guy wire is 12’ from the bottom of the poles, how tall are the power poles ?
This isn’t a catanary curve. I solved this problem by adding 12ft to 10ft, as half of the guy wire would be 10ft. Thank you!

I assume that the guy wire is a straight line.

First, we can visualize a diagram. We can imagine the guy wire of a right angles triangle. The hypotenuse is 20', and the adjacent side is 8'. We only need to find the opposite side. We can do that by using the Pythagorean Theorem. x is approximately 18.33. now we add 18.33' with 12' to get: 30.33'

To me, this post is not a Math problem, at all - - - it is a soup of words, inedible.

It is the best and most soft characterization which I can give to this incoming post.

Math problems are NEVER formulated in this way.

        THEREFORE, to future generations of students, who will read this post,
        my advise is do not take this " problem " seriously and do not trust to its any " solutions ".
