At 12:00, Brian is 5 miles ahead of Carol.


Their relative speed is  9-3 = 6 miles per hour, i.e. Carol decreases the distance between them at the rate of 6 miles per hour,

or 1 miles every 10 minutes.


THEREFORE, Carol will overtake Brian in 50 minutes, at 12:45.
