Question 1165122: A mall outlet has available space for 200 items of seasonal type of clothing included in
its summer product line. The items are available in small, medium, and large sizes.
Records in the last 5 summer sales indicate that demand for medium sizes is the
highest, and that 1/3 as many small and 1⁄2 as many large sizes, as medium sizes, will
be needed. Determine the largest number of medium sizes of which the outlet will
have space.

.

Let x be the largest number of medium sizes of which the outlet will have space.

Then from the condition, you have this inequality

    x +  +  <= 200.

Multiply both sides by 6. You will get

    6x + 3x + 2x <= 1200,

    11x          <= 1200

      x          <=  = 109.09...

ANSWER. The largest number of medium sizes of which the outlet will have space is 109, under given conditions.
