Let X be the number of red beads initially.


When the number of red beads was increased by 25%, the number of red beads became  X + 0.25X = 1.25X.


We are given that this number is 200.  So


    1.25X = 200;  hence,  X =  = 160.


ANSWER.  Originally, were there 160 red beads in the container.

Solved.

As you see, everything related to green beads is IRRELEVANT.
The info saying "40% of beads were red" is irrelevant, too.

Thus to solve the problem, all unnecessary data should be filtered out.
