He can select the 3 students in C(24,3) ways; then he can assign the 3 different current events to those 3 students in 3! ways.

Since the students are different and distinguishable, and since the current events are different and distinguishable,


the total number possible selections is  24*23*22 = 12144.


    24 choices for the first current event;

    then 23 choices for the second current event;

    and, finally, 22 choices for the third current event.
