The strategy is to move the constant term "16" from the left side of the equation to the right side with changing its sign 

- and then to take the square root of both sides.


You will get then


    x^2 = -16;


this equation has no real roots; it has two complex roots instead


     =  = +/- 4i,


that are imaginary numbers.
