Question 1136389: A tour group split into two groups when waiting in line for food at a fast food counter. The first group bought 8 slices of pizza and 7 soft drinks for $34.49. The second group bought 5 slices of pizza and 5 soft drinks for $22.40. How much does one slice of pizza cost?

.
Since 5 slices of pizza and 5 soft drinks cost $22.40, it implies that

       1 slice of pizza and 1 soft drink cost $22.40/5 = $4.48.

Now you can easily answer the problem's question by subtracting 7 times $4.48 from $34.49. It gives you

        one slice of pizza costs $34.49 - 7* $4.48 = $3.13. ANSWER
