Question 1132933: In a certain year, 34% of adults in a certain country viewed a college education as essential for success. For the following ten-year period, this percentage increased by approximately 1.6 each year. The percentage of adults from this country who viewed a college education as essential for success x years after the first year can be represented by ________.

Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the percentage increase per year is 1.6%.
you start with 34%.
the next year it's 34% + 1.6%
the year after that it's 34% + 1.6% + 1.6%
the year after that it's 34% + 1.6% + 1.6% + 1.6%

if you let x equal the number of years after, then the formula becomes:

p = 34% + 1.6% * x

x = the number of years after the percentage was 34%.
p = the percentage after x years.

when x = 0, p = 34% + 1.6% * 0 = 34%.
when x = 1, p = 34% + 1.6% * 1 = 35.6%.
when x = 2, p = 34% + 1.6% * 2 = 37.2%.
