Question 1114086: Janet spent $42 on shoes, this was $14 less than twice the cost of a blouse. Let the variable 'p' be the cost of the shoes. Give an algebraic equation for the cost of the blouse and solve the equation

i believe your algebraic equation will be:

p = 2b - 14

when p = 42, this equation becomes 42 = 2b - 14

add 14 to both sides of the equation to get 56 = 2b

solve for b to get b = 56/2 = 28
