the difference: x-y
of a number and 6: x-6
2(x-6)distribute the 2 (Distributive Properties of Multiplication):
2x-12

Try it, use any number. I'll use 20:
2(20-6) let's first subtract then multiply:
2 * 14 = 28
Now distribute the 2:
2(20-6) = 40-12 = 28
