2L+2W = 56 Substitute for L:
2(4W+3)+2W = 56 Distribute the 2 over the terms in the parenthesis
8W+6+2W = 56
10W = 50
Divide both sides by 10:
10W/10 = 50/10
W = 5
L = 4(5)+3 = 23
